Back to Basics: Drill #2b Half Pendulum Drill

The second drill for the second menu of the "Back to Basics" plan is based on one of my old favourites. The Half Pendulum Drill provides a great footwork or movement exercise with a shot save/control element. There is also a conditioning aspect in this drill that will have your goalies near exhausted at the end of every repetition. On occassion, I will use this drill as a warm-up drill in lieu of a skating warm-up when time is limited and the head coach wants to get the goalies involved in the team drills right away. The combination of movement and shots will make this one a favourite!
Multiple progressions and variations can make this drill a warm-up starter for a whole month's worth of practices. While it appears to be basic, goalies at all levels should work on this drill throughout the season to eliminate bad habits that can creep into one's technical skills.
